New features — including golf cart rentals, drone demonstrations and added cooling areas — at this year’s Four State Farm Show were a hit with visitors.
“A strong representation of agricultural products coupled with lower-than-predicted temperatures contributed to making our 2018 show a solid success,” said Lance Markley, Four State Farm Show coordinator and publisher of Farm Talk Newspaper.
The big news, however, at this year’s show was the announcement that the 2019 Four State Farm Show will be held May 3, 4 and 5.
“We love our on-farm show site south of Pittsburg, Kansas, and will return there in 2019,” Markley said. “The site is easily accessible from anywhere in the Four State area.
“The extreme heat we generally encounter with our third weekend in July show dates has become a concern,” he continued. “Exhibitors and attendees alike are affected, and both segments’ input has been instrumental in making the date change.”
Each day of the show, visitors had the opportunity to enter to win the $1,000 Shopping Spree at the Farm Talk Newspaper tent. On Friday, the winner was Vicki Shepard of Bel Aire, Kansas. She plans to spend her $1,000 Shopping Spree at Sam’s Club. Saturday’s lucky winner was James Hess of Hume, Missouri. He plans to use his winnings at Quality Craft Tools. On Sunday, Steven Carpenter of Iola, Kansas, won.
At the daily hay demonstrations, visitors could enter to win an additional $500 Shopping Spree for parts, services or goods with any hay demonstration exhibitor. Paul Wyatt of Taneyville, Missouri, was Friday’s winner. On Saturday, Galen Hiller of McCune, Kansas, was the winner. Sunday’s winner was Lynn Daniel of Springfield, Missouri.
Kids 18 and under also had the chance to win a Kids’ Drawing. Gavin Henderson of Frontenac, Kansas, was this year’s winner.
