Doug Shoup took over as Kansas State University’s Extension Crops and Soils Specialist for southeastern Kansas last week.
Shoup takes over for veteran K-State agronomist Gary Kilgore who retired this past spring. Kilgore continues to serve Kansas State and area farmers as a professor emeritus.
Shoup grew up on a diversified farm near Lyndon in Osage County, Kan., and holds bachelor’s, master’s and PhD. degrees from K-State.
His doctorate is in weed science and he also worked with soybeans in Monsanto’s biotech pipeline.
Shoup says he’s excited about the new job and will spend some time getting to know county agents and getting better acquainted with southeast Kansas agriculture.
His office will be located at Chanute, Kan.
