Seven young farmers and ranchers from Labette County attended the Kansas Farm Bureau Young Farmers and Ranchers Leaders Conference January 27-29 in Wichita. They were among over 480 young agricultural leaders from around the state that participated.
Representing Labette County were Caleb and Janet Phillips of rural Cherryvale, Kyle and Emily Zwahlen of rural Edna, Kris and Frances Graves of rural Bartlett, and Brian Elsworth of rural Oswego.
Labette County collegiate youth also attended including Cameron Sale of rural Cherryvale and Katie and Brice Rohling of rural Mound Valley. They are members of the Coffeyville Community College Collegiate Farm Bureau.
Emily Zwahlen was one of four individuals competing in the State YF&R Discussion Meet that was held during the Conference. She won second place in the contest receiving a monetary award.
The conference featured national speakers including 2011 Miss America Teresa Scanlan along with the contests, workshops, and networking with a theme of “Innovate-Educate-Motivate.”
The trip was sponsored by Labette County Farm Bureau with funding assistance from the Kansas Farm Bureau Foundation for Agriculture.
