The Top 10 reasons farmers' yards sometimes don't look as good as they might:

10. The dog’s in charge of fertilization and results are spotty at best.

9. The moles, armadillos and dogs have formed a coalition of the willing.

8. The neighbor’s cows hop the fence and visit during monsoon season.

7. It’s the designated machine shed overflow parking area.

6. Farmers have a hard time telling the difference between weeds and flowers and they’ve always got a dab of herbicide left in the tank.

5. They cut their hay at the right height but, when it comes to mowing the yard, the deck is in the dirt.

4. The kids’ pony gets staked out in the yard and intensively grazes until he creates a crop circle.

3. The kids got a four-wheeler for Christmas.

2. A fescue-bluegrass-bermuda-crabgrass-foxtail-plantain-henbit lawn is a challenge to manage.

1. It’s kinda tough to get a 16-ft. brush hog into some of those spots.
