Parsons, Kansas —
Despite weather making it difficult for many to attend Friday and Sunday of last weekend’s Horsefest held in Springfield, Missouri at the Ozark Empire Fairgrounds, Saturday’s attendance held strong.
Top-notch clinicians such as Julie Goodnight, Drew McDannald, Tim Brock and Paul Sidio accompanied with informational sessions including: Equine Chiropractic and Acupuncture, Equine Dentistry and Bits, the Missouri Ranch Horse Association and the MOFA Hoof Care Clinic provided something for everyone in the horse industry.
With approximately 300 booths offering anything from feed to tack to western apparel, if it was equine related, it was at Horsefest.
If that wasn’t enough, attendees were treated to events like the always popular cowboy mounted shooting, a demonstration from the Southwest Missouri Hunter Jumper Association as well as a NBHA sponsored Barrel Racing Showdown.
One crowd favorite, new to this year’s horsefest was Dynamic Equine. Wowing attendees with a live horse painting demonstration — “Jinx” was painted to reveal the skeletal and muscle structure of a horse, providing an educational experience for all that attended.
Area breeders were also represented at this year’s Horsefest, braving the weather, they brought some of their best stock to display during the three-day event.
As true to years past, Southwest Missouri Christian Cowboys hosted a Sunday morning cowboy church service complete with gospel music and an inspirational message by Nathan and Martie Maynard.
In the Horsefest Giveaway Randy Burton of Miller Mo., won the MFA and Applegate Livestock and Equipment 40-ft round pen. Jessica Westervelt of Cherokee, Kansas won Friday’s $300 shopping spree which she spent it at PFI. Steve Bell of Schell City, Mo., was the winner of Saturday’s $300 shopping spree, which he spent with MFA and Walker, and Sunday’s $300 shopping spree was awarded to Janice McCain of Springfield, Mo., which she spent with PFI.
The winnings weren’t only for adults, Christina Hinkston of Springfield, Mo., was the lucky winner of the children’s drawing.
This year’s Horsefest Gold Sponsors included MFA and Applegate Livestock Equipment, PFI Western Store, Race Brothers and Priefert. £
