HorseFest delivers another memorable equine experience
Three-day event featured big names, big crowds

by Mark Parker

It was all about horses and horsemanship last weekend as approximately 9,500 equine enthusiasts enjoyed the fourth edition of HorseFest at the Missouri Entertainment & Event Center in Springfield, Mo.

Everything for the horse and horse owner—from tack to trailers and corrals to cowboy hats—spilled out from a large trade show and a full slate of clinics and special events provided plenty to see and do.

Sponsored by Farm Talk and the Missouri Entertainment & Event Center, HorseFest headliners John Lyons and Ken McNabb delivered plenty of horse sense in daily clinics and educational presentations by equine experts covered a wide range of topics, from horse massage and saddle fitting to nutrition and horse health.

HorseFest visitors had the opportunity to watch breed demonstrations of Appaloosas and Miniature Horses as well as the annual HorseFest Shootout featuring the fast and furious action of Cowboy Mounted Shooting.

Additionally, area breeders brought some of their best stock to be on display during the three-day event.

In the HorseFest GiveAway, Gary Huffington of Buffalo, Mo., won the 2008 John Deere TX 4X2 Gator and Janet Klineline of Marionville, Mo., won the Powder Creek 40-ft. round pen. Bridget Gile of Lincoln, Mo., was the children’s drawing winner.

HorseFest Gold Sponsors included Purina Mills, PFI Western Store, Race Brothers Farm & Home Supply, MFA, Powder Creek, Behlen Country Horseman’s Choice Horse Equipment, John Deere, Larson Farm & Lawn, and Priefert Ranch Equipment.
