Inter-State Fair Buddy Barrow show

Parsons, Kansas — The Inter-State Fair was special for a Pittsburg, Kansas, man on Wednesday, Aug. 14.

Jason Greenwood was Grand Champion for the Buddy Barrow show in Coffeyville.

He was paired up with a 4-H participant, Keeton Ornder, Vinita, Oklahoma,  and after a bit of coaching from Keeton, showed Keeton’s pig, Daisy.

Greenwood was all smiles as he showed off his buckle and ribbon. “I hope I can come back and do it again,” he said. He participated in the Buddy Barrow show last year, and “did good.” He’s anxiously waiting to participate again next year. “I liked (Keeton’s) pig and I hope I see his pig again next year.”

Keeton’s pig, a 196 lb. crossbred, was raised by the Ornders. Keeton, who is twelve, also showed a heifer at the fair.

This is his third year to show at the Inter-State Fair. He is the son of Shane and Jody Ornder.

The Buddy Barrow show matches adults and children with developmental disabilities with 4-H and FFA exhibitors. The participants are mentored by the students in showing their barrows. The special people are judged on their showmanship in the arena and awarded prizes.

Each participant received a ribbon, a show stick, and a t-shirt. Class was the major sponsor of the Buddy Barrow Show, and judge was Dwayne Messner, Caney, Kan.

Nick Williamson of Parsons, Kan., a KU fan, was reserve grand champion. £
