Parsons, Kansas —
The North American Manure Expo has always been about showcasing manure management and application equipment and educating farmers and custom applicators on managing and applying manure. Now it’s time for manufacturers to show-off their equipment and latest inventions in the Show-Me State.
The 2014 North American Manure Expo is being held July 8-9, at the Ozark Empire Fairgrounds in Springfield, Mo. The theme of the 2014 expo is “Valuing Manure and the Environment” and will feature two days of equipment demonstrations, educational sessions and vendor displays.
The Manure Expo is a joint effort between University of Missouri Extension, Oklahoma State University Extension and the manure application industry. The event rotates around the United States and Canadian Provinces. This is the first year it will happen in Missouri.
On July 8, interested parties can take part in a bus tour featuring new technologies in lagoon and concrete tank agitation equipment, manure management at a pasture-based dairy, and a visit to a wastewater treatment and biosolids operation, highlighting anaerobic digestion, nutrient management planning and field mapping. Attendees will return to the fairgrounds where the tradeshow will be open from 3 to 7 p.m. A pump school is also being held from 5:30 to 7:30 p.m.
On July 9, the Expo day, registration begins at 7:30 a.m. and shuttles will run to the solid and liquid manure equipment demonstrations. The solid field demonstrations will begin at 8:30 a.m. followed by liquid field demonstrations at approximately 9:45 a.m.
Buses will begin returning attendees to the fairground and tradeshow around 10 a.m. Education sessions will begin in the afternoon with topics including new methods for solid and liquid manure application, application windows and equipment sizing, manure value and feed-manure optimization, managing manure as a fertilizer, and environmental protection.
The day ends with a manure gas and safety presentation plus a manure spill response and safety demonstration.
The expo’s tradeshow — being held at the fairgrounds – will be open 3 p.m. to 7 p.m. on July 8 and 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. on July 9. There, attendees can see the latest and greatest in manure handling equipment, including solid and liquid manure spreaders plus composting equipment.
Attendance is free to all the events but pre-registration is required.
