Published April 22, 2008 05:35 pm - Area FFA members stood out at the Missouri FFA Convention, taking numerous high placings in many team events.

Southwest Missouri FFA teams take top spots at state convention
Wide range of events mark the youth organization's 80th anniversary


Southwest Missouri FFA chapters were extremely competitive in team events at the recent Missouri FFA Convetions. Teams from the are placing in the top three include:

•First place, Soils: Pleasant Hope FFA. Blake Press, Brady Gifford, Ben Farrell and Matthew Brown. Individually, Press placed first overall in the contest. Gifford placed fifth, Farrell placed seventh and Brown placed 17th. Advisors: Jeff Voris and Mary Ann Keck.

•First place, Agricultural Mechanics: Miller FFA. Ben Logan, Jared Andrews and Grant Jester. Logan ranked first overall, Andrews was sixth and Jester placed 12th in individual competition. Advisors: Jay Shepherd and Lyle Whittaker.

•First place, Meats Evaluation: Marshfield. Jason Young, Amy Crawford, Mandy Stockton and Kevin Smalley. From a field of 173 competitors, individually, Young ranked first, Crawford ranked fifth, Stockton ranked 10th and Smalley ranked 20th. Advisors: Bill Roberts and Kyle Whittaker.

•First place, Forestry: Mount Vernon FFA. Mitchell Moore, Glen Grout, Lauren Eagles and Keith Wright. Moore ranked first, Grout ranked seventh, Eagles ranked tenth and Wright placed 22nd out of 130 individuals. Advisors: Randy Garrett and Jason Haymes.

•First place, Dairy Foods: Fair Play FFA. Joshua Gaylord, Kaitlyn Graves, Taylor Moore and Dallas Wicklund. Gaylord received first, Graves received fourth, Moore received fifth and Wicklund received 46th out of 98 individuals. Advisor: Randy Lightfoot.

•First place, Nursery/ Landscaping: Skyline FFA. MaryAnn Percival, Cassidy Carneal, Casteel Kirk and Tiffany Hardin. Percival ranked first, Carneal placed sixth, Kirk placed11th and Hardin placed 19th out of 111 individuals. Advisors: Jason Blair and Carl Button.

•First place, FFA Knowledge: Bakersfield FFA. Tiffany Chamberlain, Tori Kingsolver, Robbie Kirkland and Lisa Yount. Kingsolver ranked second, Yount ranked third, and Kirkland ranked seventh out of 202 individuals. Advisor: Troy Wiesner.

•Second place, Meats Evaluation: Butler FFA. Brennan Berwald, Josh Mareth, Katie Griffith and Ally Bettels. Advisor: Paul Jett.

•Second place, Farm Management: Aurora FFA. Brittany Arnold, Anne Marie Burk, Jordan Lauffer and Jacob Mccully. Advisors: Craig Grisham and Jim Spencer, Jr.

•Second place, Horse Evaluation: Aurora FFA. John Boatwright, Tiffany Evans, Kyndra Jones and Matt Price. Advisors: Craig Grisham and Jim Spencer Jr.

•Second place, Entomology: Aurora FFA. Rachael Cavener, Trevor Keckler, Josh McLaughlin, and Chad Vaught. Advisors: Craig Grisham and Jim Spencer Jr.

•Second place, Livestock Evaluation: Aurora FFA. Blake Ask, Kari Bender, Kenzie Lauffer and Keilsie Young. Advisors: Craig Grisham and Jim Spencer, Jr.

•Second place, Agronomy: Marshfield FFA. Chris Garton, Courtney Throne, Tina Porter and Brittany Heithold. Advisors: Bill Roberts and Kyle Whittaker.

•Second place, Poultry: Marshfield FFA. Nicole Johnson, Karisa Lorenz, Morgan Rust and Blair Wilkerson. Advisors are Bill Roberts and Kyle Wittaker.
