The Coffeyville Community College Livestock Judging Team took seventh place at the National Western Stock Show in Denver, Colorado this January. The team competed against 27 different schools from nine states.

Individually Dustin Frank of Johnstown, Colorado, was third High Individual Overall. He was also third High Individual in cattle. Tiffany Evans, Aurora, Missouri, was 11th High Individual Overall and sixth High Individual in sheep. Caleb Boardman of Frannie, Wyoming, was 18th High Individual Overall and fifth High Individual in Sheep.

Other Individuals on the team were Brad Brundage from Princeton, Missouri and John Boatwright from Aurora, Mo.

CCC was the High Team Overall in the Carload Judging contest. The Carload Judging contest is much like the general livestock judging contest except it consist totally of cattle and instead of judging four individuals in a class you judge four pens of cattle which consist of 4-6 head of cattle per pen. The same schools judge in it that judged in the Livestock Contest.

“This is the only time that we judge a contest like this. It is a lot like the National Barrow Show in Austin, Minnesota that consist of totally hogs,” said CCC Livestock Judging Coach, Brian Anderson. “The National Western Carload contest is considered a true stockman contest because of one’s ability to judge lots of livestock at the same time.”

Evans was the High Individual in the Carload Contest. Boardman was eighth High Individual Overall. Hannah Sloan of Neosho, Missouri was just two points out of the top 10 and Heather Collins of Cimarron, Kansas and Frank were the other members of the team and were very close to individual honors also.

“It was an exciting week for all of the CCC agriculture programs,” said Anderson. “With the Meats Team win at Denver, the CCC Agriculture program is the only team to win a National Contest in Livestock and Meats and to win the Sweepstakes award at NACTA. An amazing accomplishment for the whole program when you consider how many schools and programs seldom get a chance to win just one of those feats.”
