It was a beautiful spring morning for the annual Wilson County Spring Beef Show.
Forty-nine entries from 12 counties participated. 4-H and FFA members from Bourbon, Butler, Cherokee, Coffey, Greenwood, Labette, Marion, Montgomery,Russell, Wabunsee, Wilson and Woodson counties had entries. Keith Martin from Altamont, judged the show.
Barrett Simon from Butler county topped the heifer show with his April 2011 Mainetainer heifer, he was awarded a show halter sponsored by the Fredonia COOP.
Reserve Champion honors went to a January 2011 Charolais heifer shown by McKenna Richardson from Greenwood county. She was presented a Feed Pan sponsored by the Coulter Family in Fall River.
The steer division was topped by Evan Flatt with his 1,018 pound crossbred. He also won a show halter sponsored by Fredonia COOP.
Evan is from Montgomery county.
Brett Holloway was reserve champion with his 1,144 pound crossbred. He was awarded a feed pan.
Showmanship honors in three different age groups were awarded rope halters. In the Senior Division top honors went to Mindi Holloway from Woodson county reserve honors went to Karl Riffel from Marion county.
The Intermediate division winner was John Emmerson from Bourbon county and Brett Holloway was reserve. The Junior division was won by Weston Gaines from Marion county and reserve McKenna Richardson from Greenwood county.
Members from Wilson County that participated were: Bailey Chaplin, Grayson Coulter, Brianne Nelsen, Katie and Leslie Robinson, and Linda Shinkle.
